Performing A Rune Cast

Cast mode provides a free-cast space, allowing users to perform any rune cast that can fit within the confines of their screen. As a result, little guidance is provided to the caster and the empty cast screen can be a little intimidating for new users.

It's important to remember, however, that free-casting is very similar to other forms of casting and, once initial reservations are overcome, can be quite empowering. Simply follow these steps to perform a free-cast.

First, Find a quiet place where you can perform the cast. The goal need not be silence. You simply need to reduce external distractions. If you are in a crowded setting and can't escape from loud noise, then simply use your earbuds and play some soft music. Try to keep your body and mind calm. Focus your mind on the specific situation for which you seek guidance. Avoid vague scenarios or general ideas.

Second, determine the cast pattern that will best address your question or concerns. Many sources exsist for cast patterns including books, articles, sites, and friends. As stated earllier, novice casters who are unfamiliar with rune casting, and cast patterns in particular, should start with a more inclusive, guided-cast product like Runes.

Third, with your question firmly in mind, begin to cast the stones that will complete your pattern. Notice that you are free to cast any pattern in whichever order, and at whatever tempo, you wish. Some casters prefer to complete the pattern before contemplating their cast. Others like to analyse each stone as it appears.

Interpreting Your Cast

Given the nature of a free-cast system like Rune Stones it is impossible to provide meaningful guidance on specific cast interpretation. Casters must instead look to the source(s) of their chosen cast patterns for further insight. The following general guidelines, however, should always be kept in mind.

First, the order of the rune stones in any cast is extremely significant. The very same stone, if it were located at different positions within the cast, can exert a different influence on the interpretation.

Second, the essential integrity of the cast must be considered and maintained. The runes that form the cast must be seen and analyzed holistically. They cannot, and do not, act in isolation. Just as the placement of a particular rune in the cast influences its meaning, so do the presence of its siblings. A particular rune will have a specific meaning when cast in a particular position, and that fundamental meaning will not change. The stones that were pulled in the same cast, however, should have a non-trivial impact upon the way the rune is interpreted.

Rune cast interpretation is at once easy and very difficult. Every caster's understanding of the individual runes and the subtleties of the various casts increases with experience. The quality of interpretations is tightly linked to this level of experience. Novice casters should begin by studying the rune definitions provided within this application. Guidance on interpretation is given for each rune. Armed with a proper understanding of the significance of the individual runes, casters can begin to interpret rune casts with increased depth and understanding.

Recasting The Runes

You can perform a recast at any time. This is especially useful if your concentration and focus are interrupted during casting or if you wish to consult multiple spreads on related issues.

To reset and clear the free-cast space, simply switch to Cast mode if required.

Then tap the reset button as shown below. Alternatively, you can grip your device firmly and give it a gentle shake.

Either way, an alert is raised asking you to approve the reset. This step guards against the accidental loss of a valid rune cast. Once the recast has been approved, the existing stones will disappear allowing a fresh cast to commence. You may repeat this entire process as many times as desired.

It is important to avoid the temptation, however, of casting numerous times against the same question. After a certain point, the marginal value of further insight from your subconscious becomes trivial. You even risk confusing the knowledge you've already gleamed.
